Blasting at Kansanshi open cast copper mine Kansanshi Mining PLC, a First Quantum subsidiary. Explosives supplier / service provider BME blasting at Kansanshi copper mine, in the north-west of Zambia, detonating a large number of electronic delay detonators (EDDs) in a single blast. This photo was taken a fraction of a second after the blast took place. Each blast produces thousands of tons of ore. The daily blast is usually done using one master blast / blasting box, communicating remotely to the slave boxes & detonators down in the pit where the explosion takes place. Base metals producer First Quantum Minerals’ subsidiary, Kansanshi Mining Plc (KMP), which has an 80% stake in the project, did the drill and blast planning for the blast.
