With a cheer that soundedabove the clangor of battle, sending gladness to friend and terror to foe,the command went forward at double-quick, dashing up the hill and gainingthe summit in time to share in the victory, arid to render its possessionsecure. During the night these regiments were advanced to the summitof Round Top, and the two hills were joined by a strong line of breast-works, constructed of loose boulders, and the position made amply secure.
