(Rosa Wichuraiana.) Creeps on the Ground Like Ivy—Dark Green Leaves Satiny=White Flowers, with Golden-Yellow Discs- as Grass, and Will Grow in Sun and Shade. It is difficult to conceive anything more appropriate, beautiful and enduring for covering graves and plots in cemeteries than the Hardy Hemorial Rose. It forms a dense mat of very dark green, lustrous foliage, and flowers in lavish profusion from the first week m July throughout the month, and sparingly for the rest of the season They are single, pure white, with a golden-yellow disc five to six inches in circumference, and have the strong fragrance of the Banksia Roses. But its use is not confined to cemeteries. Planted m the garden, either as a creeping plant or trained upright to a stake, it makes the prettiest sight imaginable. It has been largely used throughout the famous park system of Boston for covering rocky slopes, embankments and such places as it was desirable to cover quickly with verdure. It quickly adapts itself to all conditions of growth, whether barren soil, rocky ledge or fertile garden, and no more fitting place can be found for it than running through the grass (see cut).
