Bone tumour. Light micrograph of a section through a parietal bone from the skull showing a giant cell tumour of the bone (GCTOB, yellow). This is a rare benign (non-cancerous) tumour characterised by the presence of multinucleated giant cells (osteoclast-like cells). The nucleoli (dark brown) within the nuclei (brown) are particularly prominent. The tumour is usually asymptomatic while small, but becomes painful and increases the risk of fractures as it grows. Magnification: x250 when printed at 10 centimetres wide. Human tissue.
