OPCW. Orgainisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons. Johan de Wittlaan, The Hague. NL. Tuesday 17th May, 2022. A delegation from Britain had intended to visit the Orgainisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague, to press for immediate action from the OPCW, the watchdog on chemical weapons. Mr. Steve Sweeney, who represents the group of demonstrators, spent more than a year documenting Turkey’s alleged use of chemical weapons in Iraqi Kurdistan, and had the intention of presenting his findings in person today. His findings included, testimonies from Kurdish villagers, medics and security forces, he also had the intention of delivering soil samples, video footage and other evidence directly to the OPCW, which has thus far ignored letters, petitions and request from Kurdish organizations and politicians. Mr. Sweeny was not permitted to enter the Netherland from the and he is quoted as say “I blame the Turkish state for many things, and I am sure if they could find a way to collude with the airline to stop us from traveling, they would.” He is also quoted as saying “While all eyes are on Ukraine. NATO’s second-largest army is committing war crimes in Iraqi Kurdistan.” 33 years ago the world remained silent and 5,000 Kurds were gassed by Saddam Hussein in Halabja.” Access was denied to the (OPCW) today and no meeting held.
