Nevertheless, the whole honor of the day wasascribed to Marius, on account of his former victory and hispresent authority. Nay, such was the applause of the popu-lace, that they called him the third founder of Rome, ashaving rescued her from a danger not less dreadful than thatfrom the Gauls.—
