27th October 2012. Rhayader, Mid Wales, UK. Meat is brought to the feeding site. Red Kites (Milvus Milvus) are seen at the Gigrin Kite Feeding Centre. The Powell family founded Gigrin in the early 1990's when only 54 pairs of breeding Kites existed in Wales because of persecution to near extinction by farmers who didn't realise that Red Kites are carrion feeders and not predators. Since then the Powell’s have been feeding Kites every day at 2pm (3pm in summer). Photo credit: Graham M. Lawrence/Alamy Live News.
