Climax boiler, 19th century. Illustration of a vertical section through a Climax boiler, a type of boiler known as a spiral watertube boiler. The Climax was invented by Thomas F. Morrin and Walter W. Scott of New Jersey, USA, and patented in 1884. Artwork from 'Chaudieres et Machines a Vapeur' (1911) by French civil engineer Max de Nansouty (1854-1913), part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
