Chichester, West Sussex Tuesday 15th September 2015 : GV of 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britaint capturing one of the most ambitious aviation celebrations ever seen in Britain – a flypast involving an estimated 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes, the most to come together in one place since World War Two. A flypast involving about 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes is taking place to commemorate the 75th anniversary of World War Two's Battle of Britain. The grouping - the biggest in one place since the war - took off in waves from Goodwood airfield in West Sussex before dispersing around the region. Prince Harry was due to take part, but gave up his seat for a battle veteran when one of the Spitfires was grounded. The battle between German Luftwaffe and the RAF was a key moment in UK history. The Battle of Britain was one of the pivotal moments in our nation’s history. Thousands of brave British and Allied airmen inflicted a decisive defeat on the Luftwaffe - thwarting Hitler’s plan to invade Britain and changing the course of World War Two. ©UKNIP / Alamy Live News
