Roan Mountain also is home to the longest grassy bald in the Appalachian Mountains as well as the largest natural rhododendron garden in the world. This range is part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Southern Blue Ridge Mountains stretch from North Georgia to Virginia and are so named for the blue color that comes from the mists that rise from the mountains .
