EXTERIOR OF POWER STATION the water from the well around the filters, directly to theboilers. It also serves as a fire pump and for general utilitypurposes. ENGINES AND CONDENSERSThe main engines are rated at 1500 hp. They are of thehorizontal, cross-compound, condensing type, built by theHoovens, Owens, Rentschler Company. The cylinders are 26 ins. and 52 ins. in diameter, with 48-in. stroke. The speed is94 r. p. m. The Siegrist oiling system, by which the oil is delivered tothe engines under pressure, is employed for lubricating. After use it is returned by gravityto a filter and pumped backto the engines. The condensing apparatuswas furnished by the Alber-ger Condenser Company. Itconsists of one barometriccondenser serving two engineunits, and of duplicate setsof water and dry vacuumpumps. PUMPS The condensing waterpumps are of the centrifugaltype, each having a capacityof about 3000 gals, per min-ute at 300 r. p. m. Each isdirect connected to a simple, non - condensing, horizontalH
