In 1S90, following thedeath of Robert F. Taylor, he succeeded to the activemanagement of the store. When Mr. Taylor came toPittsburgh in 1889, the store was doing a business ofabout $15,000 yearly, and the steady and healthy growthof the enterprise is indicated by the fact that at thepresent time it transacts a business of $700,000 annually,in a new and modern building containing floor spacein excess of 20,000 square feet, with splendid show roomsand warehouse facilities. Conducted for many years asa partnership, the business was incorporated in 1919,the personnel of the company as follows: William BIOGRAPHICAL 83 Taylor, president and treasurer; R. L. Connolly, vice-president; and R. M. Taylor, who has been the firmsaccountant for many years, secretary. They handleevery kind of furniture in large assortments, and a finemotor delivery equipment enables them to supply apatronage extending over a radius of one hundred milesfrom Pittsburgh, including adjacent sections of Penn-sylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and Ohio. Mr. Taylor is a member of the Pittsburgh Chamberof Commerce. Politically he supports the Republicanparty, and while he has never sought political prefer-ment he has long been an earnest worker in all ad-vance movements of the city, commonwealth, and nation,bearing the part of a fearless advocate for the long pro-secuted and finally successful prohibition reform. Heis vice-president of the Ulster Society, and a member ofthe Western Pennsylvania Historical Society
