While there are several fine specimens of this tree in the vicinity of Philadelphia, it is not considered reliably hardy north of Washington. Strong pot-grown plants, 24 to 30 inches high, ,< 50 cts. each. — Soulangeana. A Chinese species which, while shrub-like in its young growth, attains the size of a tree in time; its flowers, which are produced early in spring, are cup-shaped, 3 to 5 inches in diameter, and are white inside, flushed with purple outside. Strong, heavy plants, $ each. Lennei. A variety of the above in which the outside petals are of a deep crimson. Strong, heavy plants, $ each. — Stellata.
