Krotel, ofLebanon, was made the unanimous choice of the Vestry as 23 TRemfnisccnces pastor of Trinity. He preached his introductory sermon onthe following Trinity Sunday. The old stone parsonage on Duke street was now sold, anda new parsonage, the present one, built next to the Sunday-school building, A part of the old stone school-house had tobe torn down to furnish room for the pastors home. Thebranch Sunday-school was still connected with the mother con-. GottlOb F. Krotel, D. D., LL. gregation, but on June 6, 1853, it was transferred to the newSt. Johns Church. For several years there had been a growing sentiment thatthe church building should be modernized, and finally on July5, 1853, a special committee was appointed to take the matterinto consideration, outhne plans, inquire into the probable cost,and report at the next meeting of the Vestry. An architectwas engaged, the necessary changes were agreed upon, and in 24 ©l& ^rlnlts a short time the work was under way. At the same time theold Sunday-school building received extensive repairs, the ideaprevailing, however, that a new Sunday-school building was anapproaching necessity. On the 5th of September, 1853, ground was broken for theenlargement of the vestibule on each side of the tower entrance,the old brick wall enclosing
