Hayward Gallery on the South Bank of the River Thames


The Hayward Gallery is located on the south bank of the River Thames and forms part of the South Bank Centre, which includes the National Theatre, National Film Theatre, Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcel Rooms and the Poetry Library. It is renowned for exhibiting contemporary British art and touring exhibitions. The gallery was opened in 1968 by the Queen. It concrete structure harks back to the sixties brutalist architecture. It was designed by a group of young architects, including Dennis Crompton, Warren Chalk and Ron Heron.
