New lock gates have been fitted to lock two on the Rufford arm of the Leeds and Liverpool canal watched over by a temporary CCTV camera
Cw 7821 New lock gates at lock 2 Rufford arm As part of the annual winter works programme on the inland waterways the gates on lock 2 of the Rufford Arm of the Leeds and Liverpool canal have been replaced. On the 3rd of November 2021 the old steel gates have gone and have now been replaced with a new pair of gates made from oak. As a security measure the white pole on the far bank has a closed circuit tv camera mounted on the top of it which is monitored from a control room in Scotland. If the operators up there see anything of concern they will alert the local police. The main area of concern is the possibility of the theft of the pumps or other equipment on the site. The remote monitoring is more economical than employing a watchman.
