Cape Crozier Antarctic expedition. British explorers Henry Bowers (1883-1912), Edward Wilson (1872-1912) and Apsley Cherry-Garrard (1886-1959) at the start of their winter journey to Cape Crozier in June 1911 as part of the British Antarctic Expedition (1910-1913). The scientific expedition to Cape Crozier was the first extended sledging journey in the Antarctic winter. Also known as the Terra Nova Expedition and led by Robert Falcon Scott, the shore party of 33 spent two seasons exploring on and around the Ross Ice Shelf. Scott, Bowers, Wilson and two others died in 1912 returning from their attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole.
