With one terrified yelp, the Wolf jumped out ofthe bushes and fled into the forest as fast as he could. In fright the Cat scampered up the tree and theBear, of course, supposed that the awful creature nowwas after him. In his frantic efforts to escape hetumbled down out of the tree and broke two ribs. Butfor all that he made off, too terrified to look back. So the Fox and the Cat were left to finish the oxin ADVENTURE VII THE WOLF SINGS Having sacrificed his ox in order tofeast the Foxs servant, the Wolf hadnothing left for himself and was soonvery hungry.
