Japan: 'Two Women and a Puppy'. Hanging scroll painting by Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754-1799), c. 1780. Nagasawa Rosetsu (1754-1799) was a Japanese painter of the Maruyama School, from a family of low-ranking samurai. He studied under famed artist Maruyama Okyo in Kyoto, until they had a falling out. He incorporated aspects of Western realism into his work.
