Paramyxovirus. Transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of paramyxovirus ribonuclear protein helices (pink strands). These helices contain the viral genetic material, ribonucleic acid (RNA), in combination with proteins. A paramyxovirus particle contains a single ribonuclear protein helix enclosed in a spherical protein shell, or capsid. Paramyxoviruses belong to the family Paramyxoviridae, which includes the mumps virus, the measles virus (rubeola) and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Magnification: x102,000 when printed 10 centimetres tall.
