T has been suggested that the pubhcativ^n of the first book of the Parish Registers of St. George Tombland requires a few prefatory words in memoriam of him who devoted to its transcription the leisure hours of the last two years of his life, and it seems to me that it also affords a fitting opportunity for thanking, in the name of our dear dead, as in our own, all th -le who have in any way contributed to the successful completion of the work. Especially is our gratitude due to the Rev. \ Hudson, who not only gave my brother much invaluable aid while the ister was in process of transcription, but has since carefully revised the whole manuscript, andsuperintended its passage through the press. Also to Mr. T. R Tallack, who has supplied a large number of the notes which enhance the interestand importance of such a work of reference. Above all to Mr. A. E. Rumpof Rampant Horse Street, No
