The variety used as a table vegetable. The edible portion is the thick end of the leaf of the flower head. Sow early in drills one foot apart, and when about ten inches high transplant into rows four feet apart and two feet in the row. French, Asperge. This popular and delicious vegetable should be in every household. Sow the seed early in the spring, in drills, about one inch deep. Thin out when the plants are three or four inches high. Keep the soil mellow and free from weeds during the summer. In the fall or succeeding spring, the plants may be set in beds about one foot apart each way, and the crown six inches below the surface. The soil should be rich and deeply cultivated to secure a |H. good crop. Do not cut too closely. The roots need the benefit of some foliage p , during the year. Cover with a dressing of manure in the fall, and in the *~ollover s spring work this into the ground. Colossal Conover's Colossal. Large and of rapid growth.
