The annual florists' barbecue was held at East Lake park, September 10, under the auspices of the Birmingham Horti- cultural Society, which has just been reorganized. A number of pastimes were indulged in and an enjoyable day was spent. Those attending were among the prominent florists in the Birming- ham district. Howard Bros., of Thorsby and Charles Skews, of Bessemer, were guests of the local society. John L. Parker acted as toastmaster. In a pleasant and appropriate address he expressed the kindly feelings of those present. G. B. McVay made an address full of enthusiasm. Hugh Seales, in his usual happy manner, made a long talk, impressing the ladies present with the fact that all florists are creatures of God. Short talks were made by George Luflfman, James Williamson and John A. Lambert. The youngest florist present was the 15-month-old baby of Theo. Smith. All the florists and their families made merry and extended their hands across the festive board in a body, with the one happy thought in heart and mind, "; After the spread a sad and impressive ceremony was per- formed.
