Memorial to Ulrich Inderbinen fronting old restored wooden houses and huts in Hinterdorf Zermatt
Editorial use only. The memorial to Ulrich Inderbinen fronts a line of old restored wooden dwellings and storage huts in the old Hinterdorf district of Zermatt. The storage huts are particularly interesting. Part of the fundament consists of circular flat stones serving the purpose of keeping out vermin to protect the hay and other stored provisions. These are collected during the summer and kept as winter fodder for farm animals. Ulrich Inderbinen was born in 1900 and is reportet to have climbed the Matterhorn 370 times up to 1990. The memorial states that he is the World's oldest mountain guide.
