Bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum, yellow) growing with Scots ling heather (Calluna vulgaris). The bracken fern fronds have faded to a yellow autumn colour. This widespread fern is usually found growing on acid heathland soils and in woods and sheltered grasslands. Photographed in August, in Cairngorms National Park, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, near Braemar.
