A test of the new digital countdown clocks to be installed on the lettered lines in the New York subway is seen at the 34th St. BMT station servicing the N, Q, and R lines on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Currently the countdown clocks serve 176 stations with the 90-day test on 8 BMT station in Manhattan to determine the feasibility of the technology used. The new technology uses Bluetooth receivers in the stations connected via the existing wireless network. The first and last cars of the trains will have Bluetooth transmitters. (© Richard B. Levine)
