DNA sculpture. Conceptual sculptural artwork of a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) double helix, created by Karen Rann in 2002. The title of the artwork is Spirality: curious twists. It is made from tufted- hair grass and semi-rigid PVC plastic. The shape of the artwork could represent the structure of the DNA backbone of alternating deoxyribose and phosphodiester chemical groups. The text on the PVC could represent the fact that genetic sequences are made up of permutations of four different nucleotide bases, in the same way that a piece of writing in English is created from the set of 26 letters.
