ORIGIN AND DISTRIBUTION. The mite is not native to the United States and was probably in- troduced at an early period, presumabl}^ from Europe on nursery stock, buds, or scions. It was first recorded in the United States hy Townend Glover, in 1872, and since that date has made its appear- ance in the principal pear-growing regions of the United States and Canada.
