Celtic Game Events--Weight Over Bar#1
The 2011 Saline (Michigan) Celtic Festival featured a number of traditional competitions, including Weight Over Bar (or Weight for Height). Here, a master-class competitor attempts a 14-foot toss with the 56-pound (4-stone) weight. Americans have embraced the Scottish heavy games with enthusiasm and strive for authenticity in all but one sartorial detail: Competitors typically wear completely un-traditional (and often amusingly creative) athletic shorts under their kilts--everything from garish smiley faces to ladies' bloomers. This chap sports a very staid pair of cycling shorts.
