The Grace Covenant PresbyterianChurch was organized on May 3, 1953,by a Commission of Asheville Presby-tery, at which time six Ruling Eldersand nine Deacons were elected to serveon the rotary system, a committee ap-pointed to recommend a permanent pas-to, and 5:00 , May 17th, set as thetime to complete the work by ordain-ing and installing officers elect and act-ing upon the report of the committeeon calling a pastor. Dr. C. Grier Davis, by special requestpreached the sermon, Dr. R. E. McClurepresided as chairman of the commis-sion, and other members had parts onthe program. Rev. W. G. Thomas servedas clerk, with the assistance of RulingElder F. A. Plummer. Rev. W. M. Foun-tain, moderator of the Presbytery,brought greetings from the Presbytery. Other members of the Commissionwere Dr. J. R. McGregor, Dr. H. B. Den-dy, Rev. Paul N. Gresham, and RulingElders George H. Wright and R. R. Wil-liams.
