On the grass at their roots sits a young womanwitli a naked babe upon her knee, and another older childseated before her, offering her some fruit plucked from thetrees. The mother wears only a loose dress of violet hue,drawn off her right shoulder and revealing the soft curve ofher bust as she offers her breast to the babe. Her auburn hailis gathered loosely behind her ruck and falls below hershoulders. Her left hand caresses a dog and a cradle of rushesis on the ground at her feet. lieyond the river the ground islaid out in lawns and walks and the houses appear with whitewalls and
