The constellation Perseus (the Hero). This is a prominent constellation of the northern hemisphere, lying in a rich part of the Milky Way. It is best seen in autumn. The brightest member of Perseus is Mirfak (just left of centre). Just left of bottom centre is Algol, the first eclipsing binary star discovered. Toward the top right corner may be seen a small cluster of stars known as h and chi Persei. The star in the very top right corner is delta Cassiopeia. The images of the main stars seen here have been enhanced using a photographic technique.
