Each ofthe larger cartilages forms a portionof an oval ring, which is placed ob-liquely on the side of the septum:so that the extremity of the oval pointsdownward and forward, while themiddle part of the oval is directed up-wards and backwards. The sidesof this cartilage are flat, and unequalin breadth. The narrowest side is in-ternal, and projects lower down thanthe cartilaginous septum; so that it isapplied to its fellow of the other external side is broader, and con-tinues backward and upward to a con-siderable distance.
