VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, RWANDA Igitangaza, a three and a half year old mountain gorilla (gorilla berengei berengei) keeps a watchful eye on the silverback gorilla that marshels her group. Around nine days before this picture was taken, Igitangaza was attacked by a lone silverback gorilla from outside her group, badly injuring her hand and biting off the fourth finger on Igitangaza's right hand. Igitangaza was treated by a vet and is recovering, although at the time of photographing was extremely timid and nervous. See for more.
