The Cheuilie Piant. 650 THE CHENILLE PLANT.—fAcaZi/pAa Sanderi, or His- —This is the most remarkable and sensational plant nov- elty which has been discovered and introduced for a generation. The Acalyphas hitherto known to plant lovers are remarkable for their highly-colored and beautifully marked foliage, in which they rival the Coleus; but Acalyplia Sanderi, to which we have given the very fitting name of Chenille Plant, is one of the most gorg- eous and peculiar floAvering plants thus far discovered. It grows up a straight, stout stem clothed with large, green leaves of good substance, and out of the axil of every leaf grows a spike of blos- som, glowing crimson-scarlet in color, 20 to SO inches long, as large around as a person's finger, and looks exactly like a long piece of crimson-scarlet chenille cord. Speciment plants 6 feet high, with from 40 to 60 spikes of flowers from two to three feet, were sold in Philadelphia during the past autumn at from $ to .$ each. Nice plant. Acalypba i'l icolor or Aucumn Leaves. 651 ACALPHYA ^LIRGINATA.—Dark bronze, with rose mar- gined foliage. This variety equals the showiest varieties of Coleus in effect, and has besides a decided advantage over anv Coleus —namely, to be hardier and liable to Avilt in the hottest and driest weather. 10c,.
