RECTOCELE, DRAWING
A rectocele is an abnormal bulging of the rectovaginal septum due to weakening of pelvic support tissues. This weakening may be congenital, but is usually due to trauma (most commonly childbirth). A rectocele is often linked to genital prolapse, produces a general sensation of pelvic heaviness and may result in chronic urinary infections. Corrective surger may be performed to reanchor the vagina and rebuild the perineum.
