Coed Camlyn is one of several oak woodland reserves in the Vale of Festiniog, which run from Blaenau Ffestiniog to the coast at Porthmadog. The reserve is one of the most important areas for woodland conservation in Europe. The reserve covers over 60 hectares of the steep and rocky south side of the valley behind the village of Maentwrog. This type of Atlantic woodland is often described as “temperate rain forest” due to the prevailing damp humid climate and abundance of: ·Ferns, ·Lichens, ·Rich growth of mosses, ·Liverworts. Coed Camlyn is of European importance and as such is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and forms part of the Meirionnydd Oak woods and Bat Sites Special Area of Conservation (SAC).
