MEDITERRANEAN SEA (Dec. 15, 2016) Seaman Stephano Opdal, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), inventories flash gear before a general quarters drill. Opdal serves aboard Nitze as a cryptologic technician and is responsible for intercepting communications and operating radio equipment. Nitze, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, is conducting naval operations in the 6th Fleet area of operations in support of national security interests in Europe.
