Northam Burrows near Appledore, North Devon, England. Monday 7th February. As the sun rises behind the coastal villages of Appledore and Instow, the mudflats on the River Torridge estuary at Northam Burrows wake up to a chorus of wading birds. Northam Burrows Country Park lies at the western edge of the Taw Torridge Estuary. Lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the Burrows played an important role in the preparation for the D-Day landings on 6th June 1944.
