Transit of Venus model. Diagram of a model used to artificially represent the transit of Venus. This model was used by the British expeditions sent to view the 1874 transit to practice their observing skills. The model was looked at with a telescope from a distance of 120 metres. The black disc represented Venus and the white triangular opening represented the Sun.
