'Captain Williams is Musketry Instructor of the 19th Middlesex, or Working Men's College Corps. In 1860 he stood third for the Queen's prize, and again this year tied for third place. The 19th Middlesex is a well-known corps, and bears a high reputation for the steadiness under arms of its members and their precision in field movements. The success of Captain Williams will, it is believed, materially assist in adding to their Dudley's cup, which was really the grand prize of the Wimbledon meeting, having been contended for by all who had won prizes in previous contests, was shot for at 500 and 800 yards - five at the former and seven at the latter range. At 500 yards Lord Bury and Captain Williams scored 5 bulls'-eyes each, and 22 marks (hits and points), each at 800 yards. Upon shooting off the tie, at the first round, both made bulls'-eyes. At the second Captain Williams scored a bull's-eye and his Lordship a centre. This exciting match closed the Wimbledon Prize Meeting of 1862'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862.
