(192) Amasa7 Dean, (of James®, Jonathan^, Ezra*,Jonathan^, James^, Walteri,) Was born at West Abington, 27 March, 1820, onthe farm in West Abington purchased by hisfather, of Meredith and Clymer, proprietors ofmuch of the land in Lackawanna county northof the mountains. He spent the most of his lifeupon the old homestead farm. For a short timehe was engaged in the milling business, con-ducted at the old grist mill near Market streetbridge, Providence. Later he engaged in miningcoal for the retail maiket at the Notch but didnot continue long at the business. The latterpart of his life was spent at Dalton, where heboarded with his nephew, W. A. Dean, and lastwith his sister, Mrs. Eaton, where he died 29December, Dean was a kind-hearted, obliging neigh-ii8 f. A]MA8A «KA\ bor, and without an enemy in the world. Hepossessed a happy disposition and contentedmind He was never rich, but possessed a com-petency equal to his modest wants. He was asufferer by the failure of the Second NationalBank, of Scran ton, in common with manyAbington people, losing five thousand dollars ofstock by its collapse. He was especially belovedby his nephews and neices, who received manyproofs of his affection. Kindness and considera-tion of children was a marked was never married.
