Horizontal wide angle night view of the historic Markt (Market Place), surrounded by traditional old gabled houses with the prominent statue of two popular Flemish heroes, Jan Breydel and Pieter de Coninck in the centre. In 1302 Breydel, a butcher, and de Coninck, a weaver, led an uprising in Bruges against the occupying French and have been portrayed ever since as patriotic heroes in Belgium because of their passion for Flemish identity. The statue Jan Breydel shares with Pieter de Coninc has decorated the Market Place in Bruges ever since 1887.
