To the Honorable the Minister of Agriculture : Sir,—I have the honor to presaafc heretvith Part V. of the fifteeath aaaual reportof the Bureau of Industries for 1896, containing tabntated statements of statistics of themanicipalities of Ontario up to December 31, 1896. The statistics of assessment, rate of taxation and population are compiled fromreturns made by municipal clerks, while the financial statements for 1895 are tabulatedfrom schedules furnished by municipal treasurers, after being checked over with the detailedreports of the municipal auditors. ^A large amount of correspondence was renderednecessary in order to rectify discrepancies.
