Animal cell structure. Cutaway artwork showing the structures inside an animal cell and the two main processes by which material is ingested or removed. At centre is the cell nucleus (red) and nucleolus (dark red). Surrounding it are various cell organelles, including the Golgi apparatus, mitochondria, and the rough and smooth endoplasmic reticulum (all blue). Vesicles (yellow) are used to expel material through the cell membrane by exocytosis (upper right). Microtubules and spindles (orange, lower right) form part of the cell's cytoskeleton. Ingestion of material occurs by endocytosis (green, lower right).
