Covered Tureen in Form of a Hen with Chicks, c. 1755. The Chelsea porcelain factory, in what is now London, was England's most important ceramic factory in the mid-1700s. Large tureens in the form of chickens or rabbits appealed to aristocrats with large country estates and have long been recognized as outstanding products of this factory. The tureen was recently united with a stand of the same design as one originally intended to accompany it.
