Opisthorchiasis life cycle. Diagram showing the life cycles of the parasitic flukes Opisthorchis felineus and O. viverrini, the causes of opisthorchiasis. The worm has two intermediate hosts, water snails and freshwater fish. It infects humans when they consume raw or undercooked fish. Infection is often asymptomatic, but may cause fever, rash and abdominal pain.
