The great variety of shades of silk admits ofvery artistic work, and with cave and a littleexercise of good taste, embroidery can be madeas attractive as other branches of art. Thedrawings are shaded to guide in a way the useof the different shades of silk. For straw-berries, one needs at least three shades of redfor successful shading, and they should .be sogrouped as to give a roundness to the berry,much as the light strikes objects, giving themlight on one side or point, and shadow on theopposite. Many use a too brilliant yellow forthe seeds of the strawberry, which are more ofa straw colour, and should not be so prominentas the bright yellow makes them. Use a coolgreen for the stems and leaves, and do notattempt to vein the foliage. The blackberries can be worked in knots, ifone desires, but the flat work
