As the crust thickens by deposits on the inner surface, the cavities first formed become smaller l)y the drying of the walls surround- ing them, and the Sarcopt abandons this location for a jiosition nearer the flesh, where there is more mois- ture. The mites are, there- fore, only found on the in- ner surface of the crust, although the cavities or honey -combed appearance exists throughout the whole substance. T R E .\ T M E N T.—When this disease is first observed in a flock, prompt and energetic measures should be adopted to eradicate it. The affected birds should be isolated to prevent the spread of the contagion. The houses which they have occupied should be thoroughh' cleaned. The roosts and other woodwork should be scalded with boiling water or covered with carbolated lime wash. The treatment of the af- fected birds is the same as with sca])ies of the body, with the single exception that the loosened scales must be removed in order to bring the remedy in contact with the mites. In order to accomplish this the legs should be soaked for a sufficient time in warm water. 60.—Scabies of (scaly leps)..
