'Ludwig XVIII', (1933). Portrait of Louis XVIII, King of France (1755-1824). Louis became king in 1814 when the monarchy was restored after the defeat of Napoleon. He fled Paris when Napoleon returned from Elba to re-establish his rule during the Hundred Days in 1815 but regained the throne after Bonaparte's final defeat at Waterloo.
